387回目 SPY

今日はBook5 Unit28を中心に行った。新規の単語でscares[skéəs]：乏しい、不足した、が出てくるが、この単語、最後の[s]をしっかり発音しないと、scare[skéə]：怖がらせる、になってしまう。Where in the world is water scarce?という質問に対して、私はWater is scare in Africa.（アフリカでは水が怖い）と言ってしまい、先生が爆笑した。これ、結構普通に言い間違いそうだ。

Unit28のadditional questionsは「Spying」。最近マンガの「SPY×FAMILY」を読んでいたので、何となくそれをイメージしながら回答を考えた。例えばこのような感じ。

What kind of people do you think may want to become a spy? -> I think that people who are loyal to their governments or companies may want to be a spy.（政府や会社に忠誠を誓った人がスパイになりたいと思うかもしれない。）

What spies install in a place in order to be able to listen secretly to other people's comversations? -> Spies install a tapping device in a place ～.（スパイは盗聴器を仕掛ける。）

What happens to a spy if they are caught in a foreign country? -> If a spy is caught in a foreign country, they are tortured to be confessed.（もしスパイが外国で捕まったら、自白させるために拷問される。）

今日の先生はtapping device：盗聴器 を知らなかったようで「何それ？」と聞かれて説明に窮した。
